Alex Haskell, Owner, Beverage Program Director
Alex is the rare native New Yorker, born and raised in Manhattan and a proud Brooklyn resident for over 15 years. He has been in the hospitality industry since 2003 when he helped a friend open a small neighborhood bar in Carroll Gardens and discovered his love of bartending (and that his degree in Economics from NYU was completely irrelevant). Since then he has helped relaunch the Russian Tea Room, served as Wine Director for Lunetta, and spent several years honing his wine knowledge at Bar Veloce before joining the opening team for Third & Vine in Jersey City as bar manager. He participated in the renowned Cocktails-in-the-Country program led by Gary Regan, and loves to create new infusions and juice combinations while pursuing unique and delicious cocktails. Alex loves dogs and wishes the Department of Health would let them hang out with him in his bar.
Kate Simpson, Owner, Claims She Doesn’t Really Work Here
Originally from Iron Station, North Carolina, Kate is a cultural event producer and project manager based in New York City for over a decade. Selected event credits include New York Fringe Festival, EXPO Chicago, The Food Film Festival (NYC), the DUMBO Arts Festival, The Lot at 30th Street with Friends of the High Line, FRIEZE Art Fair, and New York Fashion Week. She loves to travel and has visited 29 countries on 5 continents, in addition to 41 out of 50 states in the USA. She holds a Master of the Arts in Performance Studies from Northwestern University and a Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature and Performance Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She also loves to read and is to blame for the nerdy cocktail names.
